The Swilly Lake follows the story of Anna, a young Kerry woman who sets out to redefine her life by leaving behind the cruel swilly of her childhood. As she begins her journey Anna finds that her path is mysteriously crossed by that of Marie Antoinette. The man that is to be Anna's husband, Louie Rice, has been commandeered by Emperor Joseph II to mount a rescue attempt for his sister, The Queen of France. His house and Anna's new homestead is to be the safe haven where Marie Therese and the Dauphin are to be hidden. As the rescue attempt becomes imminent, the two women's lives are inexorably intertwined.
Loosely based on a true story, The Swilly Lake is an exploration of class, violence, passion and love as The Age of Reason clashes with pagan beliefs in a pungent deluge of human activity.
